When it comes to skin care, there’s no doubt about it: Koreans know their thing. They’re known for having anywhere from 10 to 16 steps when it comes to their skincare routine, but the good news is, you don’t have to go to that extreme to cop the rosy, translucent complexion you so often see in Koreanovelas. Read on for easy K-beauty skin tricks you can do right at home.

1. They cleanse like they really mean it.
Koreans are so serious about going to bed with clean skin that they cleanse twice via a process called double cleansing. How to do it: use an oil-based makeup remover first and then follow up with a foaming cleanser (choose an oxygenated formula with pearl essence) to get rid of the rest of any leftover impurities and score a clearer, brighter complexion.

2. They massage their faces.

Those beauty-obsessed Koreans keep their complexions supple and glowing by treating it to a relaxing facial massage after cleansing. This improves blood circulation in the face, giving you that fresh, flushed look. Use the middle and index fingers of both hands and gently massage the face in small circular motions. Hello, glow!

3. They’re gaga about serums.

Another staple in the Korean beauty routine is the serum, a.k.a. a concentrated potion targeted to address specific skin issues like uneven skin tone and pigmentation. Serums are generally more potent than moisturizers, and are formulated as lightweight liquids so they can easily penetrate the skin. To brighten skin, look for one with GenActiv technology, which regulates melanin production.

4. They always choose the best day cream.

K-beauty diehards know that not all day creams are created equal. To cop that Korean luminosity, choose a day cream that’s infused with skin lightening ingredients such as Pro-Vitamin B3, Korean ginseng and saffron. And because UV exposure is the main culprit behind dark spots and uneven skin tone, you need to make sure it also has SPF 15. Apply it every day before heading out and get ready for a barrage of compliments!

5. They like masking.

Korean ladies (and gents, too!) are obsessed with sheet masks, a.k.a. those thin sheets soaked in skin-boosting ingredients that you wear on your face for a few minutes. Made primarily for hydration, there are also masks for all types of skin issues - even brightening. Gentle warning: Don’t mask too much or leave it on for too long, because oversaturating your skin with potent ingredients can cause breakouts!
