Awesome Sources For Collagen

Know more about Collagen now!

Collagen is a protein that makes up about 80 percent of the skin. It gives your skin firmness, elasticity, and regeneration. It is primarily composed of glycine, proline, alanine, and hydroxyproline, all of which are amino acids. All of these components are important to maintain the skin’s natural glow and moisture.

As you age however, your natural collagen level reduces. This is why skin sags and fine lines and wrinkles form. To fix your decreasing collagen levels, there are certain ingredients commonly found in anti-aging beauty products that can help stimulate collagen production: retinols and alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs). Retinols are called the “aspirin” of skin care, because it can basically fix everything including wrinkles, oiliness, sagging, dark spots, and more. AHAs, on the other hand, greatly boost the production of collagen.

So what do you do?

You have to be diligent with your skincare. Always check the ingredient list of your beauty products to see if they contain top ingredients (again, like retinol and AHAs) that your skin needs. Because most of these products are branded as “anti-aging,” you might make the mistake that you don’t need them just yet, especially if you’re still in your 20s. However, know that it is never too early to take precautionary steps for protecting your skin from aging. Make a skincare routine that will work for you and your lifestyle immediately.

You should also remember that what you put in your body has a great impact on what you show outside. The key is to eat well for your skin. Some foods that are proven to help aid faster collagen production are: egg whites, cheese, soy, cabbage, and berries. A healthy dose of vitamin C and copper-rich foods such as shellfish, nuts and red meats can also help. While you’re at it, ditch skin-sabotaging moves like smoking, heavy-alcohol intake, and an all-around unhealthy lifestyle to make sure all your skincare efforts are worth your while.
